Frequently Asked Questions
Can I receive Medicare rebates?
Yes. All our psychologists are registered with Medicare. So, following a mental health review, you may be eligible for up to 10 sessions (per calendar year). We must have a current referral for a client to claim a Medicare rebate. We process rebates for you.
How do I access the Medicare rebates?
To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you must first see a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician, who will assess whether you’re experiencing mental health difficulties. Conditions covered include anxiety, depression, panic attacks, sleep problems, adjustment disorders and more. Medicare rebates can be accessed in three easy steps:
Book an appointment with your GP to discuss why you would like to see a psychologist. Ensure you book an extended consultation for a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’. (This is the technical term for a referral to a psychologist.)
If your GP agrees you are eligible, they will complete a Mental Health Care Plan and make a referral to the psychologist you would like to see.
Your GP will review your progress after your first six sessions. If appropriate, your GP will then recommend an additional four sessions.
Will I get reimbursed through my private health insurance?
If your policy covers psychology, you can claim a rebate via your provider. To find out how much you get back and the number of sessions you’re covered for, please contact your provider.
Can I use Medicare and private health insurance for the same session?
No. You need to choose one option—either a Medicare rebate or a private health claim. They cannot be combined for the same session.
Can I receive treatment under government programs?
Our psychologists provide psychological services for:
CTP
Work Cover
Victims Services
Veterans Affairs
NDIS
Do I need a referral?
No, you don’t need a referral to see a psychologist. However, to access Medicare rebates, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP or a referral from a psychiatrist / paediatrician.
What happens in the first session?
Your psychologist will explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss your goals, and help you decide how we can best support you. It’s also an opportunity for you to get to know your psychologist and decide if you want to proceed with therapy sessions – compatibility assessment.
How long is each session?
Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes. Assessment sessions may vary depending on your specific needs.
How do I book or reschedule an appointment?
You can book online, call us, or email. We ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule to avoid a cancellation fee.
Do you offer tele-health sessions?
Yes, we offer secure and confidential video appointments for clients who prefer or require remote support.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. All sessions are confidential and conducted in accordance with Australian privacy laws and professional ethics. Exceptions only apply where required by law or when safety is at risk.
Do you accept NDIS clients?
Yes, we work with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. We can also provide reports and support for funding applications.
